ULFA (I) rebels held in Arunachal Pradesh district

ITANAGAR/JAGUN: Security forces in Arunachal Pradesh on Tuesday nabbed two hardcore militants of the ULFA (I) when they tried to sneak into the Indian territory from Myanmar, a senior police official said.

The rebels, identified as self-styled corporals styled (SS) corporals Surjit Gogoi and Shyamol Baruah, both from Assam’s Tinsukia district, were arrested near Noglo village in Tirap district of Arunachal Pradesh along the Myanmar border, when they tried to enter the Indian territory, sources said. They were apprehended by the personnel of Khonsa-based Assam Rifles and district police.

Both had infiltrated from ULFA (I) camp located in Myanmar towards Indian territory, the sources informed, adding that they were later handed over to police for further interrogation and legal course of actions.

Such apprehension would serve as a huge blow to insurgent groups and a major achievement of security forces who have been working tirelessly for establishing peace in disturbed Tirap, Changlang and Longding districts of the state, the sources added.
