LAKHIMPUR: A rape case that took place on April 15 at Sutimukh village under Dhakuakhana subdivision of Lakhimpur district came to light on Monday. In this connection a case was filed against one Upen Das (25), a resident of the mentioned village, by the victim’s family on the next day. Police have registered the case vide No. 67/22 US 341/376 IPC.
As per report, Upen Das allegedly raped a teenaged girl of the village, who is a student of Class IX, while she was coming back home on April 15 night around 8:00pm after attending the traditional performance of Husari. The man committed the heinous crime by taking the girl forcefully to a building under construction, taking the advantage of the deserted road and heavy shower.
However, the accused is absconding. Dhakuakhana Police has launched an operation to trace him. On the other hand, a section of the family members of the accused allegedly pressed the poor family of the victim to withdraw the case. Receiving the information, the leaders of the Dhakuakhana subdivisional unit of AASU and several activists of Dhakuakhana district unit of Mahila Samiti arrived at the Dhakuakhana Police Station on Monday and demanded the police to arrest the culprit within twelve hours.
