Tapping human resource Govt priority: CM Biren

Imphal, October 28 2021: Chief minister N Biren Singh has asserted that the state government’s priority is to purposefully tap and strengthen human resource through development of infrastructure and extending assistance to students from the underprivileged section of the society.

Speaking on the side-lines of distributing scholarship of Pre-Matric and Post-Matric for OBC, SC and Economically Backward Classes students held at his Secretariat office on Thursday, CM Biren informed that as per the School Education Quality Index released by NITI Aayog, Manipur is at the top among smaller states of the country.

While stating that many initiatives and schemes have been launched to support young and talented people of the state, he reminded that the government had launched Chief Minister’s Scholarship Scheme for Civil Services Aspirants of the state after considering the hardships faced by the candidates belonging to economic backward families and others.

He stated that since 2018-19, the central government has implemented Pre-Matric and Post-Matric scholarship schemes for students belonging to OBC, SC and Economically Backward Classes through ‘Online Scholarship Management System (OSMS).

Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the government has introduced Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system to curb corruption while disbursing funds to the beneficiaries consequently facilitating provision of the scholarship amount through the DBT system without involvement of middlemen.

N Biren also informed that a total amount of Rs 23,01,05,164 has been disbursed to the bank accounts of’ 34,995 students for the year 2019-20 (2nd phase) and 2020-21 on Thursday.

Out of total sum, Rs 1,91,62,624 has been transferred to 2,335 students under OBC Post-Matric 2019-20 (2nd phase), Rs 14,14,68,710 to 22,580 students under OBC Post-Matric 2020-21, Rs 82,32,500 to 3,499 students under OBC Pre-Matric 2020-21, Rs 17,57,250 to 485 students under SC Pre-Matric 2020-21 and Rs 5,94,84,080 transferred to bank accounts of 6,096 students under SC Post-Matric 2020-21.The chief minister handed over the scholarships to select students during the function.

The students also expressed their happiness to CM for disbursing the scholarships and supporting the students economically and morally.

Secretary to chief minister NingthOujam Geoffrey, MOBC director Ng Bhogendro, bank officials, teachers and students were present during the function.
