The Suspension of Operations (SoO) camp houses some members of multiple militant outfits.
A unexpected incident took place in the state of Manipur on Saturday when suspected militants looted a designated camp of the former militants. Reports suggest that the suspects successfully made away with a large cache of arms and ammunition from the camp. According to reports, miscreants who have been suspected to be members of the Kuki Independent Army (KIA) reportedly stormed a designated camp for the Suspension of Operation cadres. The location of the incident is said to be somewhere in the Churachandpur district of the state.
The Churachandpur district of Manipur shares a border with the neighbouring country of Myanmar and this makes the miscreants very easy to escape after committing the crime. The incident reportedly led to the looting of as many as 25 sophisticated guns from the designated camp on the night of Saturday. The Suspension of Operations camp houses the members of multiple militant outfits. These people have signed the Suspension of Operation deal with the state government of Manipur. The particular camp in question houses members of three organisations namely the UTLA, KNF (Z) and USRA. It is located in the Chongkhozou area about 90 km from the headquarters of Churachandpur.
This incident of loot takes place in less than a week after the state police department had announced a cash reward worth Rs 50000 in exchange of any credible information leading to the arrest of the self-styled commander-in-chief of the Kuki Independent Army / Kuki Independent Organisation who goes by the name of Thangkhongam Haokip aka Davidson.
The state government had entered into peace treaties with as many as 25 Kuki outfits to ensure peace in the state. The Suspension of Operations is a three-party ceasefire agreement between the organisations, the State Government of Manipur and the Government of India in the year 2008. Although no concrete solution has been attained till date, the ceasefire continues to increase periodically.
