‘Quality heroin’ worth Rs. 25 cr seized near Nagaland border, one held: Assam DGP

Assam, Sept 28-2020: In a biggest blow to the drug mafias, the Assam Police on Sunday seized around 5 kilos of ‘quality heroin’ at the Assam-Nagaland border, informed Director General of Police (DGP) Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta on Twitter.

The banned drugs, with a market value expected to be of whopping Rs. 25 crores, were seized by a police unit of Karbi Anglong district.

The police have taken Ismail Ali, a resident of Jogighopa village in Bongaigaon district into its custody and further investigations are underway.

Mahanta further stated that the operation was a part of an ongoing drive against drugs, declared by the police on June 26.

“The market value of the 5.05KG of heroin recovered is said to be Rs.25 Crores! One Ismail Ali, S/o Akabor Ali under Jogighopa PS has been taken into custody. This op. is part of ongoing drive against drugs declared by DGP Assam on 26 Jun’20,” Mahanta wrote in another tweet.
