Imphal, June 07 2022: Imphal West district police commandos have arrested an active cadre of National Revolutionary Front of Manipur (NRFM), who recently carried out the bomb blast at Little Flower School, from Kangla Sangomshang in Imphal East district on Monday around 10 pm.
The arrested NRFM cadre has been identified as Thounaojam Rishi Luwangcha (46), son of Thounaojam Shelung Singh of Kangla Sangomsang Makha Leikai.
Informing this during a press conference held at his conference hall, Imphal West SP Ksh Shivakanta said that the CDO team led by additional SP (Ops) Moirangthem Amit and CDO OC Inspector P Achouba cordoned a house after getting intelligence report.
A man tried to escape from the house carrying a plastic jar used for storing instant dairy creamer but was detained by the CDO team.
Upon checking, police found a 1-foot long ‘cordtex’ wire fitted with detonator, 58 pieces of PEK weighing 7.358 kg, three coils of ‘cordtex’ wire, 397 detonators and two batteries inside the jar.
The man disclosed his identity as Thounaojam Rishi Luwangcha and said that he is an active cadre of NRFM.
Police also seized one Realme X3 Super Zoom mobile handset with Airtel simcard, Rs 9000 in cash and an Aadhaar card from his possession and one soldering iron rod, one bolt cutter, one ratchet wire stripper, 18 iron rods, electrical insulation tape and a cutter blade from his house.
He further said that he has been working for NRFM since September 2021 under the command of the front’s self-styled chairman Dha ballo, who according to him is staying in Bangladesh.
He also confessed that he carried out the bomb blast in front of Little Flower School on June 5 as well as the May 5 blast at Nagamapal and the May 6 blast at Khurai Thoidingjam Leikai.
He further disclosed that the bomb making materials were delivered to him by his commander through an unknown person in January this year.
He also revealed that he was given Rs 30,000 for every bomb blast.
Upon his disclosure, police also recovered a black colour i20 (MN05A 5899) along with the dress he used in carrying out the bomb attack at Little Flower School.
He along with the seized items has been handed over to Lamlai police station for further legal actions, the SP said.
The SP further informed that they were able to narrow down on identify of the perpetrator through CCTV footage and appealed to the public to install high-definition CCTV cameras for safety.
There are possibilities of the arrested individual being involved in other blasts and further investigation will reveal it, he added.
