MLA Dr Chaltonlien Amo of Congress switch side to BJP

Imphal, January 09 2022: With the Election Commission of India announcing the schedule for Assembly elections of five States including Manipur yesterday, Congress MLA from Tipaimukh Assembly Constituency Dr Chaltonlien Amo has joined BJP today.

Dr Chaltonlien Amo was accorded a warm reception in a programme held at BJP office at Nityaipat Chuthek this afternoon in the presence of Chief Minister, N Biren; BJP Manipur’s election in-charge and Union Minister, Bhupendra Yadav; BJP Manipur’s election co-in-charge and Union Minister Pratima Bhoumik; Assam’s Irrigation Minister, Ashok Singhal and State BJP chief, Adhikarimayum Sharda.

It may be noted that Dr Chaltonlien Amo is a former Minister and was a spokesperson of Congress and vice president of Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee before he deserted Congress today for BJP which is heading coalition Government.

It is worth mentioning that notable Congress MLAs and office bearers including former MPCC chief Govindas Konthoujam had joined BJP in August last year.

Speaking at the occasion, N Biren personally extended a warm welcome to the former Congress vice president and on behalf of the party.

He exuded confidence that Dr Chaltonlien Amo’s entry into BJP’s fold will help gain more confidence and support from people in the hill districts.

He expressed hope that Dr Chaltonlien Amo has joined the party taking note of all round development and positive changes brought after the BJP led Government came to power.

Dr Chaltonlien Amo’s joining the BJP has once again shown that hill people have immense love and faith in the party, Biren added.

Saying that the efforts of the Central leaders to bring peace, stability and development in the State is limitless, he credited Prime Minister and other key Central leaders for constantly guiding the present Government towards its full term.

Noting that the present Government is a coalition Government, N Biren also appealed all to join hands to ensure BJP attain absolute majority in the upcoming State Assembly election.
