Meghalaya Dy CM slams Congress for blaming govt over hike in fuel prices

SHILLONG: The Deputy Chief Minister, Prestone Tynsong has criticised, the opposition Congress for blaming the government for not being able to control the hike in fuel prices. “Come to me I will show documentary proofs but don’t just speak lies and accuse the government,” said Tynsong during an election meeting at Ishyrwat for NPP candidate, Pyniaid Sing Syiem. The Deputy Chief Minister at the election meeting compared the rate of tax imposed by the government of Meghalaya with that of Assam. He informed the gathering that Assam at present was imposing tax of 32.66 per cent per litre of petrol and for diesel the tax is 23.66 per cent. The Deputy Chief Minister also said that in comparison Meghalaya was imposing tax of 20 per cent for a litre of petrol and for a litre of diesel it was taxing 12 per cent.

He also alleged that the Opposition Congress did not have any agenda going into the by-polls. “Their only agenda is alleging us that we are corrupt,” pointed out the Deputy Chief Minister.

Tynsong also said that in the recent months, the Congress had approached the NPP to form a government together.

He said that leader of opposition Dr Mukul Sangma tried to convince the NPP leaders for an alliance to form a government. “His relationship with me is strained but in recent months he told me entice me by saying brother lets forgive. I told him thank you Dr. Mukul. You have disappointed the citizens of the state,” added Tynsong. He further told the gathering that he was in the Congress since 2003 and has been a Minister since till the day he was removed by Dr. Sangma in 2017.

“I know all. I have seen it all. I told Dr. Mukul thank you for the offer,” Tynsong added.
