Manipur: RNSON and KAMA demand capital punishment to rapist

Imphal, June 07 2022: Rongmei Naga Students’ Organisation, Manipur (RNSOM) and Kabui Mothers’ Association (KAMA), Manipur have demanded that befitting punishment be given to Gaigongdin Kamei, son of former ADC Tamenglong member Akhiangpou Kamei of Nungba, as per the law for outraging modesty of a woman.

In a joint release, RNSOM general secretary Jeanthui Panmei and KAMA vice president K Lujiklu said that the accused person lured the victim on the pretext of going out for shopping and dining on June 1 .

He then raped her multiple times that night and abandoned her in a secluded place.

“For this inhumane and animalistic act, he should not be granted anticipatory bail and given capital punishment under appropriate law of the land”, it said.

The bodies further urged the government to bring fair justice to the victim and ensure no stone is left unturned during the investigation.

In the event of failing to ensure justice through manipulation or misuse of power and money, the organisations will not remain silent against those involved and may compel to take up various forms of agitation with other likeminded CSOs, the joint release warned.

The organisations also sought support and full cooperation of all CSOs considering the matter seriously and join hands in case any protest is needed to be launched until justice is served.
