Manipur: NRFM claims bomb plant at Pharmacy

Imphal, June 10 2022: A remote controlled improvised explosive device (IED).was found placed near the shutter of “Lamphel Pharmacy” situated on the eastern side of Kombirei Keithel under Lamphel police station around 7:30 am Friday.

One of the salesmen reportedly spotted a steel container in front of the pharmacy as he reached there as usual at 7:30 am to open the medical store.

On lifting lid of the container, a mobile phone and a few wires were found inside, after which he immediately informed the owner suspected it to be a bomb.

Soon after, a police team arrived at the scene and cordoned off the zone along with activating mobile jammer.

A team of bomb disposal squad then confirmed content of the container to be an IED and retrieved the same at 9:30 am.

Later, the bomb was disposed at Lamphel Bumping site at 11 am.

An FIR has also been registered for further investigation, said police.

Meanwhile, the armed National Revolutionary Front, Manipur (NRFM) has claimed responsibility for placing a bomb in front of Lamphel Pharmacy at Lamphel Kombirei Keithel early Friday morning.

According to an NRFM statement issued by its information and publicity secretary Sanajaoba Meitei, the bomb was placed against the pharmacy owner’s challenge to the outfit and owner of the pharmacy shall be held responsible for any eventualities when the outfit takes up more stringent action.

The outfit, however, clarified that it was not involved in the bomb blast near the gate of Little Flower School on June 6 and it has no conflict with the educational institute at all.

The NRFM statement further clarified that the outfit has no connection whatsoever with Thounaojam Rishi of Kangla Sangomsang, who was arrested by Manipur police and branded him as a cadre of NRFM.

Regarding bomb materials recovered from Rishi’s house, the NRFM statement said that the bomb materials were left by party’s cadres at Rishi’s house due to security reason and the outfit has no connection whatsoever with members of the Thounaojam family and they are all innocent people.
