Manipur: Militant Thangkhuallian remanded to 10-days NIA custody

Churachandpur, May 28 2022: The Special Court, NIA Manipur on Saturday remanded one Thangkhuallian from Singngat (Singhat) sub-division to 10 days NIA custody in connection with an ambush laid by militants on November 13, 2021 .

Colonel Viplav Tripathi, the Commanding Officer of Khuga Battalion of Assam Rifles, his wife, and his six-year old son, besides four personnel of the force were killed in the attack near Thing -hat village in Churachandpur district close to the Myanmar border.

Six other Assam Rifles personnel suffered injuries in the same attack.

The arrested person, who is only identified as Thangkhuallian from Singngat sub-division, was produced before the NIA Special Court, Manipur by a team of NIA along with a prayer for 10 days police custody for smooth investigation of the case.

The Court, on perusal of the case and after hearing the submission of the NIA, remanded Thangkhuallian to NIA custody till June 5, sources informed.

Khamliankhup, father of Thangkhuallian, was also arrested a few days back and is presently in NIA custody.

Khamliankhup was produced before the same Court a few days back and remanded to NIA custody till May 30.NIA took over the case as per an order of the Ministry of Home Affairs a few days after the deadly ambush on a convoy of 46 Assam Rifles, which was later claimed by the proscribed People’s Liberation Army (PLA) and Manipur Naga People’s Front (MNPF) .
