Manipur: Imphal River touches flood level

Imphal, May 17 2022: Following the incessant rainfall in the past one week, the water level of Imphal River has reached flood level while the surfaces of other major rivers like Iril River and Manipur River have risen substantially.

According to information received from the Water Resources Department’s flood control room, the water level of Imphal River reached 787.250 m at Minuthong and 781.350 m at Lilong till 5 pm today. The water levels of Iril River, Nambul River, Nambol River, Thoubal River and Manipur River recorded till 5 pm were 785.550 m, 782.825 m, 773.250 m, 773.900 m and 768.970 m respectively.

Rainfall rates recorded till 5 pm at Kangpokpi, Saikul, Litan, Lamphel and Jiribam were 23 mm, 16 mm, 14 mm, 20 mm and 97.60 mm respectively.

Meanwhile, many important roads of Imphal and greater Imphal areas have been flooded subsequent upon the heavy rainfall which lashed the State today.

Apart from Singjamei, Kakwa, Konung Mamang and Wangkhei which are generally vulnerable to flash floods, many other areas, localities and paddy fields have been flooded.

Imphal-Saikul road was flooded above knee level at different points thereby causing severe inconveniences to movement of people including office goers and students.

People riding two-wheelers could not ride past these locations and they had to get down and push the vehicles.

Many roads of Telhou Channa, Leimakhong Mapal and Seijang were also flooded.

Many places of Khongman Mongkhanglambi and Khongman Pebiya Pandit Leikai including roads and homesteads have been flooded.
