Imphal, June 03 2022: The Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate, Imphal East today remanded one Gaigongdin Kamei to police custody for eight days in connection with a rape case.
The accused Gaigongdin Kamei (30) of Nungba-4 ( Bethany), presently staying at ADC quarters Sangakpham, was arrested from a quarter located near Lamphel Fishery gate yesterday and produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Imphal East by a team of Lamphel police station along with a prayer for 8 days police remand.
Through APP, the IO of the case submitted that elder sister of the victim lodged a complaint at Lamphel police station on June 2 stating that her younger sister (victim) was called out by the accused from their village gate on June 1 at around 11 am and taken away in a Bolero jeep on the pretext of shopping.
The accused took the victim to a secluded place and raped her several times.
After the committing the crime, the accused not only assaulted the victim but also threatened her not to disclose the incident to anyone.
Later, the victim was left alone somewhere at an unknown location near the Lamphel Fishery Gate at around 10 am of June 2 before she was handed over to Lamphel Police Station by some passers-by, according to the IO .
During the course of investigation, the accused was arrested yesterday night from a quarters located near the Lamphel Fishery gate.
On preliminary interrogation, the accused admitted the charges levelled against him that he called out the victim to accompany him in buying clothes and picked the victim from her village gate before taking her to one of his relatives’ place near the Fishery gate.
There he allegedly raped the victim several times and locked the victim inside the room.
The IO, citing the facts and circumstances of the case, prayed the Court to remand the accused to police custody for eight days for further investigation.
The Court, on perusal of the case record and after hearing the submission of the IO, remanded the accused to police custody till June 10 .
