Manipur: 29-Yrs-Old Myanmar woman convicted under Foreigners Act

Imphal, December 03 2021: The Chief Judicial Magistrate Imphal West has convicted one 29 years old Myanmar National under Section 14 of the Foreigners Act and directed the authority concerned to deport her to the neighbouring country.

The Myanmar National identified as Htoi San Pan, d/o (L) Gum Shatong of Tamu, Myanmar was produced before the Court by Singjamei police along with a summary charge sheet and a prayer to award due punishment under Section 14 of the Foreigners Act 1946 .

The IO of the case submitted that the accused was arrested from Bir Tikendrajit Airport for not having valid documents and passport while arriving from Bangalore in an Indigo flight at around 2.30 pm.

On interrogation, the accused revealed that she is a Myanmar National and went to Bangalore via Mizoram by train in 2010 to pursue Master in Divinity from Berem Baptist Bible College and Seminary, Bangalore.

She then worked as Child Ministry at Touch India International, Bangalore, the IO said.

The accused further revealed she is planning to marry one Pavei Paul from Senapati on December 9, 2021 whom she met in 2015 .

She also revealed that she used the identity card issued by Berem Baptist Bible College and Seminary.

The accused also admitted the charges levelled against her.

During the sentence hearing, the defence counsel prayed for minimum punishment and to deport her to Myanmar by imposing minimum penalty.

The Court on considering the submission of the APP and defence counsel sentenced the convict to undergo simple imprisonment till the lapse of the Court hour and imposed a fine of Rs 5,000.The Court also directed the authority concerned to deport the Myanmar National after payment of the fine or completion of the detention period.
