Home Minister asks Assam govt to submit reports on ST status to 6 communities

ASSAM: Union home minister Amit Shah has asked the Assam government to prepare the report on granting scheduled tribe (ST) status to six communities of the state within one month.

The development came after Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal, along with health, finance and education minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma met the Union home minister in Delhi on Sunday and discussed the status of clause 6 panel on Assam accord, National Register of Citizens (NRC) and granting of scheduled tribe status to six communities of the state.

As per reports, Shah had asked the state government to examine the report of the high-level committee on the implementation of the Assam Accord’s clause 6 by legal and constitutional experts.

The issues of implementation of the Bodo Peace Accord were also discussed during the meeting, where a month’s deadline has been fixed for implementation of various provisions of the accord.
