Imphal, March 04 2022: The High Court of Manipur has directed all stakeholders to verify the dates of birth of all young voters in Heirok Assembly Constituency who appear to be in the vicinity of the age of majority, i.e 18 years by producing two separate documents of proof of date of birth at the polling station on the day of poll.
The direction was given by Division Bench of High Court of Manipur comprising of Chief Justice Sanjay Kumar and Justice MV Muralidharan yesterday in connection with the Public Interest Litigation filed by Elangbam Jiten against Chief Election Commissioner and two others.
A press release issued by Chief Electoral Officer Rajesh Agrawal said that the documents to be produced by such voters may be a passport, a birth certificate, a Class-10 certificate, an Aadhaar Card, an Election Identity Card, or any other authenticated document certifying date of birth or age.
For verification of all such young people, separate verification counters shall be set up in all polling stations, the CEO said and added that the Election Commission has also instructed to ensure strict compliance of the order of the High Court.
The District Election Officer, Thoubal and Returning Officer, 33-Heirok Assembly Constituency have been instructed to take adequate necessary actions.
All stakeholders including political parties, candidates, BLOs, polling officials have also been informed accordingly, he added.
