Imphal, April 18 2022: Taking serious note of corruption and drug trading and abuse cases in the state Prime Minister Narendra Modi has reportedly instructed chief minister N Biren to shoulder the responsibility of eradicating both the malaises.
Chief Minister N Biren accompanied by ministers Th Biswajit, Yumnam Khemchand and Govindas Konthoujam on Monday met Prime Minister Narendra Modi, home minister Amit Shah and defence minister Rajnath Singh in New Delhi and discussed various initiatives that the state government has taken up to sustain peace and development in the state.
“Called on PM Narendra Modi Ji today and I had the privilege to discuss various initiatives that the state government has taken up to sustain peace and development in Manipur.
Also, apprised him of the steps that we have taken up to fight drugs and corruption in the state,” Chief Minister Singh said in a tweet.
During the meeting with Hon’ble PM Shri @narendramodi Ji today, I, along with my cabinet colleagues shared our vision to give an impetus to the growth trajectory of Manipur.
We are immensely thankful to PM Modi Ji for his constant guidance and support, he tweeted.
This is his maiden visit to Delhi after taking oath as the Chief Minister for the second term.
After being administered the oath, Biren Singh had said that his government’s first task would be to make Manipur a corruption-free state and will work day and night to wash out the corruption from the state.
“Next task would be to wash out all drugs-related matter from the state and thirdly, would try to see that all the insurgents operating in the state are brought to the negotiating table and political dialogues are held with them,” he added.
According to informed sources, Prime Modi advised the chief minister to take concrete steps to free Manipur from the yoke of corruption and drug abuse.
While commending the state government’s “war on drugs” mission, PM Modi pledged all possible support of the centre and pointed out that top priority should be given towards prevention of corruption, saving the youth from the menace of substance abuse and bringing the state to the path of peace and development.
Biren’s last meeting with the Prime Minister was on March 16 as the caretaker chief minister.
PM Narendra Modi congratulated Biren Singh on the BJP’s “stupendous victory” in the recently concluded Manipur assembly elections.
“Met N Biren Singh (Manipur caretaker CM) and congratulated him on BJP’s stupendous victory in the recently concluded Assembly Polls.
Our Party is committed to working even harder to fulfil the aspirations of the people of Manipur,” said PM Narendra Modi.
Caretaker CM N Biren, former minister Th Biswajit Singh and state BJP chief A Sharda Devi went to New Delhi amid uncertainties over who would be named the chief minister of the state.
The top three BJP leaders had reportedly discussed formation of the new government with the saffron party’s central leadership.
Mention may be made that the union home ministry had withdrawn the “disturbed area” status from areas falling under the jurisdiction of 15 police stations in Manipur days after CM Biren declared that the new government would work to bring peace and overall development in the state by bringing different insurgent outfits, operating in the state, to the negotiating table.
BJP retained power in Manipur by winning an absolute majority with 32 seats in the 60-member House in the Assembly polls.
