Assam Sub Inspector paper leak: Mastermind ‘Diban Deka’ has surrendered before the Assam Police on Wednesday, September 30. Along with former DIG PK Dutta, Diban Deka is the prime accused in the case.

Guwahati, Oct 1-2020: Diban Deka, one of the prime accused in Sub Inspector (SI) paper leak scam, has surrendered before the Assam Police on Wedneasday, September 30. Along with former DIG PK Dutta, Diban Deka is the prime accused in the case.

Assam Police had extensive launched search operations to capture Diban and were finally successful in arrested the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader yesterday while he was reportedly on his way to surrender.

Deka, who was absconding for 10 days, surrendered before Patacharkuchi Police in Bajali district of Assam at around 11:45 pm. He was later taken to the 4th APBN in Guwahati’s Kahlipara area. A police team headed by Assam Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) G P Singh brought the accused from Patacharkuchi to Guwahati. The BJP member had gone absconding after being questioned by the CID on September 20.

According to reports, a team of CID and Crime Branch is currently interrogating Deka at a Special Branch lockup in Guwahati. The accused will be produced in the court later today.

In yet another significant development related to the case, Assam’s Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has expelled Diban Deka as its primary member due to his alleged hand in the Assam Police Sub-Inspector (SI) recruitment scam.

Last week, Assam’s Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, upon being questioned about Deka, disowned the leader and said that he had not seen such a person in the corridors of the BJP party since joining the saffron brigade.

Assam Police’s success in nabbing Deka comes after it intensified its search operations for the fugitives amid intense statewide protests over the question paper leak. The opposition Congress camp, meanwhile, is up in arms over the alleged negligence of the ruling party in curbing corruption. Yesterday saw as many as 400 Congress workers arrested for staging a dramatic protest over the question paper leakage.

The police Monday announced cash rewards for information of the two main people — retired DIG PK Dutta and Diban, a senior BJP leader who are absconding since the sub-inspector examination question paper leak case.

Addressing the media, Assam DGP Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta and Additional Director General of Police in charge of Law & Order, GP Singh said that they have taken necessary measures to nab the prime accused in the case and has ensured that they do not cross the borders.
