Assam health department writes to State Election Commission to postpone BTC elections

Guwahati Sept 19-2020: Assam health department has urged the State Election Commission to postpone Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) elections, said health, finance, and education minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma.

“The state health department has sent in writing to the State Election Commission and the Chief Secretary to either put the BTAD elections (for BTC) on hold or further delay it. Day before yesterday we have informed the Chief Secretary to put the BTC elections on hold and also withdraw the model code of conduct,” the minister said speaking on the sidelines of an event at Guwahati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH).

The health minister stated that if elections take place in Bodoland Territorial Area District (BTAD), then it would be very difficult for the health department to control the spread of coronavirus.
