Assam CM Himanta Biswa Meeting With DCs Underway, Ends Today

DIPHU: The first two-day meeting of the Chief Minister with all the 34 deputy commissioners of the state got underway at the Arboretum-cum-Craft Centre at Mapitung here on Sunday.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma inaugurated the conference. The deputy commissioners of the 34 districts, the Chief Secretary, additional chief secretaries, principal secretaries, and the commissioners of various departments are attending the meeting that will conclude on Monday. State DGP Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta is also attending the conference.

Talking to the media at the end of the first session, the Chief Minister said, “This is the first meeting with the deputy commissioners of the state after the formation of the new government at Dispur.

“We did hold such a meeting with all the superintendents of police at Kaziranga. The next such conference will be a joint one with DCs and SPs.

“In every six months, we will hold three meetings – the first with SPs, the second with DCs and the third with both DCs and SPs. We are planning the conferences outside Guwahati.

“The DCs are here and will stay till tomorrow to discuss various developmental aspects of the state. Ministers of various departments are also here. From Delhi, the Mission Director for Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) gave his presentation on the Mission.”

“The conference discussed administration and Jal Jivan Mission, besides a few other issues today. The British administrative system has to go. We need new rules and laws to make the benefits of schemes reach the general public. We need to see that the general public does not have to face harassment.”

Earlier, the Chief Minister inaugurated the conference hall at Arboretum-cum-Craft Centre. He also inaugurated the office of the Additional Director of Industry and Commerce, Karbi Anglong, Diphu.
