Assam By-Election 2021: NDA Comfortably Wins All 5 Seats

GUWAHATI: In what may be regarded as a one-sided affair for the Assam by-polls as BJP’s Phanidhar Talukdar won from Bhabanipur, Rupjyoti Kurmi won from Mariani, Sushanta Borgohain won from Thowra, UPPL’s Jiron Basumatary and Jolen Daimary won from Gossaigaon and Tamulpur respectively.

Notably, Sushanta Borgohain wins the Thowra Assembly bye-election by 30561 votes while Rupjyoti Kurmi in the Mariani bye-poll wins over by 40104 votes.

Further Phanidar Talukdar impressively wins the Bhabanipur bye-election seat by 25641 votes.

On the other hand, BJP ally UPPL candidate Jiron Basumatary wins Gossaigaon by-poll by 28252 votes.

However, the official declaration was expected only later in the day.

Declaring an early win, Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma tweeted: “In Assam, BJP and allies are all set to register emphatic win on all 5 constituencies in the bye-polls by huge margins. This is a loud endorsement of people’s faith in visionary leadership of Hon PM Sri @narendramodi. Grateful to Sri @AmitShah and @JPNadda for your guidance.”

On Saturday, Partha Pratim Bora, spokesperson and secretary of Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) claimed that Congress would surely win at least the two seats and give a fight in the other three seats.
