Arms, cash seized in troubled CCpur; 4 held

CCpur, February 22 2022: Churachandpur police last night seized one pistol and a stash of cash from 4 people in Kullian area under Singngat PS as they maintained a strict vigil and conducted frisking exercise in the run up to the Assembly election.

Singngat AC has been riven by violence with supporters of rival candidates coming to blows and physical fights often.

The district police in their bid to prevent violence and ensure a fair poll, has been maintaining vigil in the area under the supervision of the SP CCP Shivanand Surve; Addl SP CCP Deshorjit Singh and OC CCP PS Ingocha Singh, said the police.

During the frisking and checking exercise conducted at different locations, the police team at around 11:10 pm yesterday recovered a pistol and a stash of cash from four people who were traveling in a White Toyota Fortuner SUV. The police have identified the individuals from whose possession the arms and cash are recovered as Mang David Khongsai (42) s/o Zamkholian of Sangaikot; Khuptulchin Mautuang (32) s/o Khanpao of Khuainoi village, Sangaikot; Thangneipao Mate (34) s/o Late Nangchinkhup of Buangmun Lamkhai village, Singnat and Zamkholian Mate (50) s/o Late Chingzahau of Zoujang, Lanva Block, Churachandpur. The items seized from them include, the Fortuner SUV, Rs 78,000 in cash, One Clock 19 C AUSTRIA 9mm pistol along with 8 live rounds, Rs 50,000 in cash and 4 mobile phones. All the arrested individuals along with the seized items have been handed over to Singngat PS for further necessary legal action.
