Agartala: The leaders of the Joint Movement Against Citizenship Amendment Bill (JMACAB) have called off their protest and strike for the time being, after getting an assurance from Tripura chief minister Biplab Kumar Deb to arrange a dialogue with Union home minister Amit Shah.
JMACAB convenor Anthony Debbarma said, “We met chief minister Deb and discussed CAB and about the ongoing protest. He assured us that he will arrange a dialogue with the home minister Amit Shah as early as possible. So, we have decided to call off the strike for the time being and for further course of action we will decide when we will meet the home minister. And if the home minister does not say anything about whether Tripura is going to be exempted or not then we will think our other strategies of protest.”
He also said that they are not against any community or any government but they are against CAB.
“We expect that the home minister will reconsider and maybe he will call us again for a discussion in New Delhi. We have held talks with chief minister Biplab Kumar Deb on the issues and he has assured us of full cooperation”, he said.
They said that they have decided to call off the strike for time being and for further course of action they will decide after meeting the home minister.
“ADC is not our concern, if we say about ADC then we are only talking about the particular section of the people we want entire Tripura, we are concerned about our identity,” Debbarma said.
Meanwhile, CM Deb said, “They have protested in a democratic way for the last three days. Today, we held a discussion and said that the state is facing problems like the essential commodities are not reaching in the state. They have decided to withdraw their strike.”
“They have told me about their opinion on CAB which they did it earlier also. They have asked me to hold a talk with home minister and I assured them to meet Shah as soon as possible,” the CM added.
