Around 25 auto rickshaws were on Monday detained by the Jiribam police for violating the curfew and lockdown which have been imposed in the district to prevent the outbreak of the novel coronavirus.

Those detained drivers of the autos were produced before the executive magistrate by the Jiribam police and released later after being warned to not repeat the violation by the police.

The authorities also appealed to the people to aid the police department by making the lockdown successful. The police has, in the meantime, been carrying out publicity campaign to stop the people from coming out on the streets without good reason to do so. They have requested the public not to come out of their homes unless it is absolutely unavoidable.

Meanwhile, the Borobekra subdivision development committee and clubs from Borobekra carried out the relief work initiated by the state government and brought rice to the doorsteps of the residents free of charge. Residents have expressed gratitude over the relief work carried out by the organisations.

The Borobekra subdivision development committee president, Pukhrambam Jiten stated that five kilos each of rice had been distributed to every household by the two organisations. The rice has been provided by the state government, he added.
